Speedmatic^®: General Information

ESECO-Speedmatic^® Revolving Darkroom Doors and Pass-Through Windows have been in use since 1969. Installations of Speedmatic^® products include thousands of commercial, government, hospital, and industrial customers worldwide. The Speedmatic^® doors and windows come with 30 month "No Hassle Warranty" and a history of more than twenty-eight years of excellent service.

The latest in safe, easy access to darkrooms, photo labs, inflatable buildings, x-ray labs, graphic arts, clean-rooms, computer rooms, hospitals, laboratories, air lock structures. Keeps darkrooms cleaner and completely light-safe, protecting expensive light-sensitive materials from fogging. Personnel can enter and leave the darkroom without interfering with other activities.

Revolving darkroom doors are manufactured using Dow Lustran ABS and electrically pre-coated, anti-corrosion treated steel: two-, three-, and four-way models for permanent installation, pop-out with break-away hardware, hinged, and ADA handicapped accessible doors in many popular sizes. Custom sizes quoted upon request. All gaskets are provided to insure complete light-proof and dust-proof protection when door is in operation or in stopped position. The door has felt sealing strips between the two cylinders to finish the light seal. Non-slip rubber floor covering greatly reduces the chance of tripping. The stationary floor not only prevents accidents but also makes the needed light seal at the bottom. Riveted and welded steel members for extra strength, reinforced steel flanges, easy rotation, center suspension, self-aligning ball bearings - these are only a few of many features of Speedmatic^® Revolving Darkroom Doors. Wheelchair ramps are available for handicapped accessible models. The doors are normally shipped knocked-down for easy re-assembly on the job site (around 1 man/hour). • MATERIAL
  ABS: 0.090" (0.229 cm) thick Black Dow Lustran, a rigid high-impact Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. ABS has excellent rigidity, toughness, dimensional stability, and impact strength. ABS doors will not dent, crack or tear upon impact, will retain their original shape when accidentally struck, will not rust in the humid lab environment; they will never need painting.
  Metal: Corrosion-resistant 20 gauge steel. Steel parts are coated with anti-reflection paint to reduce stray light. All openings are reinforced by aluminum tubing. Supports and trim are factory finished with black Polane matte paint. Transfer casters on the metal door bottom are provided for easy mobility.

• INSTALLATION
  Permanent: attaching directly to the wall.
  Pop-Out: With unique break-away hardware, makes easy to pop the door loose in case of emergency or moving large pieces of equipment in and out. Break-away hardware is easily installed with aluminum strip extrusions along the edge and another attached to the wall. A 2" (5.1 cm) wide neoprene rubber strip inserted between the two completes the light seal.
  Hinged: Swings open as a regular door; has a continuous hinge on one side and rollers on the other, can be moved instantaneously in case of emergency or routine cleaning requirements.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1. ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURER

2.1.1. COMPONENTS
DOOR:
A. ABS Door: 0.090" (0.229 cm) thick Black Dow Lustran, a rigid high-impact Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, manufactured by Monsanto Chemical Company. The Dow Lustran material will not dent, crack or tear upon impact. This material will also retain its original shape when accidentally struck and will not rust in the humid photo lab environment. ABS is a petroleum hydrocarbon. Flash Point 730°F - 752°F (388°C - 400°C) degrees. Flame class UL-94 HB.
B. Steel Door: fabricated of 20 gauge, cold rolled, anti-corrosion treated steel.
SUPPORTS:
The inner rotating cylinder is center-suspended with a sealed thrust ball bearing, rubber shock mounted. This cylinder is contained in a U-shaped track that provides perfect rotation. Formed steel side flanges provide permanent rigidity.
PAINT:
All corrosion treated steel parts are coated with black Polane matte paint to reduce reflection of stray light.
ATTACHMENTS:
All entrance and exit openings are reinforced by 1"×1" (2.5 cm × 2.5 cm) square aluminum tubing.
SAFETY HARDWARE:
Pop-out type break-away system. J shaped aluminum extrusion with 0.25" (0.64 cm) recess is secured to the wall and an identical extrusion is fastened to the rotating door flanges. This is on the top and both sides of the door. The door is pushed into position and a 2"×0.125" (5 cm × 0.318 cm) flexible neoprene strip is inserted into the groove. Removal of the door is accomplished by pushing or pulling on the door. The flexible neoprene strip disengages from the extrusion, allowing immediate access.
FLOORING:
Covered with a black rubber non-slip mat. The steel doors come with rollers (not available on the 65"/165cm and 72"/183cm steel doors) to facilitate installation and removal.
INTERNAL HANDRAIL:
Operation from the inside of the door is facilitated by a convenient handrail.
EXTERNAL FINGER GRIPS:
Operation from the outside of door through recessed finger grips in the rotating cylinder.
FLUORESCENT MARKERS:
Luminescent fluorescent markers are provided for easy location in the dark when the door is rotated.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1. INSTALLATION
Outer wall must be flat for a distance of 5" (12.7 cm) top and sides. No door frame needed. Inside wall may be trimmed out. Floor must be leveled and smooth. Normal installation time: 1 man/hour.
3.1.1. PREPARATION
The Speedmatic^® door is normally shipped boxed, skidded, and assembled ready to install.
3.1.2. ERECTION
Knock-Down doors are available for on-site assembly. Shipped with complete instructions. Allow 1.5 hour assembly time.

SUPPORTS:
Rigidly constructed frame with metal flanges for simplified wall attachment. An extra set of metal flanges are provided for the trim-out of the outside wall. The inner rotating cylinder is center-suspended with a sealed thrust bearing, rubber shock mounted.
FLOORING:
The inner cylinder is attached to a lazy Susan base with ball bearings, providing for smooth rotation. The wooden floor is covered with a black rubber mat.
PAINT:
All corrosion treated steel parts are coated with black Polane matte paint to reduce reflection of stray light.
ATTACHMENTS:
The window openings are reinforced by 1"×1" (2.5 cm × 2.5 cm) square aluminum tubing.
